CMMI Appraisals growing!

As experts in CMMI, we sometimes worry that we are too close to the trees to be able to fully see the forest.  This year's annual SEPG North America conference has just finished in Portland, Oregon, and the annual event is always helpful in providing some perspective on the current industry view of CMMI.  We have two major observations this year:

  • The slight slump in number of appraisals we saw in 2008-9 does, indeed, seem to be correlated with the recession.  Number of appraisals have recovered (see the March 2010 chart below) and anecdotally from our own research and discussions at the conference, 2010 was probably bigger than 2009.
  • Appraisals outside of North America are growing fast particularly in China but also in Brazil, Mexico, Spain, France and Malaysia.

SEPG Europe is June 7-9, 2011 in Dublin.  I will be delighted to meet readers of this blog and other DCG Customers at our booth in Dublin.

"It's frustrating that there are so many failed software projects when I know from personal experience that it's possible to do so much better - and we can help."
